Ayurveda Diet Facts

Diet plays an important role in Ayurveda. According to Basic principle of Ayurveda body consist of 3 constituents namely Doshas i.e. Vaat , Pitta and Kapha. They supports healthy life system when they are balanced. Imbalance in These dosha will be lead to various health problems or diseases. Improper diet , low nutritious food intake or in appropriate timing of food causes imbalance . So it is very important to maintain your diet to avoid various health problems.

There are Some food combinations should be avoided which are responsible to disturb the equilibrium of 3 doshas. Certain examples are as follows :-

  1. Honey and Ghee in equal portions
  2. Milk and Fish together
  3. Fruits along with lunch or dinner
  4. Lemon with Curd
  5. Curd at night
  6. Milk with Black gram or sour fruits

Diet plan in Ayurveda helps you to control your extra calories , improves digestion and keep you away from various health problems.

Pre BreakFast Between 7 AM to 8.30 AM

1 Glass of warm water with 1 Tablespoon honey and half lemon juice or 1 glass of water kept in copper vessel.

Breakfast Between 9AM to 10 AM

Veg sandwich with Wholegrain bread or 3 Thalipeeth or a bowl of oats made with water and skimmed milk sweetened with 3 spoons of raisins or upma made with vegetables.

Mid Breakfast before Lunch Between 11 AM to 1 PM

if hungry then eat a piece of fresh fruit or 7 almonds.

Lunch Between 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM

Option 1 :- 1 big bowl( 250 ml cup) vegetables salad, 2 to 3 small oil free chapatti and 1 bowl of vegetables

Option 2 :- 1 bowl of baked or boiled vegetable , 1 small bowl cooked brown rice with and 1 small katori of either Dal, chole, or Rajma

Option 3 :- 1 small bowl of sprouts/ / 1 small katori of vegetable sambhar/ 60 gm light tofu/ 1 bowl low fat Dahi.

Option 4 :- 1 small bowl whole wheat pasta( protein option) 2-3 eggs white/ 100 gms grilled chicken Breast/ 100 gm fish.

Mid lunch and Dinner(Snacks) Between 4 PM to 5 PM

One or Two Pieces of fresh fruit

Or 4 pieces of any dry fruit like dates, prunes, apricots/ a fistful of raisins/ 12 almonds/ 30 pistas/

Or 1 bowl of boiled corns/

Or 1 to 2 handful roasted Murmura mixed with cucumber, tomatoes, onion, coriander and Bhel chutney.

Or 2 Idli or 2 Dhokla with green Chatney

Have at least 5 glass of water between lunch and dinner.

Dinner Between 8 PM to 9 PM

1 big bowl of salad , a big bowl of vegetables or clear vegetable soup.

Or 1 Bowl of Oats Khichadi

Do's and Dont's

  1. Don't drink cold fridge water as it increases weight.
  2. Atleast have 1 fibrous fruit every day
  3. You can mix it in Salads too
  4. Drink at least 2.5 to 3 liters of Plain water in whole day.
  5. No fruit juices , eat whole fruits to get fibers.
  6. Exercise or walk daily for 30 minutes.
  7. Eat only when you are hungry and stop when you feel like full.
